Lila is a pregnant woman attempting to fit the mold of 'perfect' mother demanded by her new, family-focused community. When she experiences an ectopic pregnancy, however, she becomes the victim of abuse and a furious psychological breakdown.

Overwhelming anger is a common symptom of PTSD; this is a fact rarely explored in mainstream education and media. It is even less so represented in female characters, who are much more expected by the patriarchal lens to keep themselves perfect and pretty. We wish to make Baby Fever for an audience of women who have experienced trauma—whether personal or institutional—and who may have been made to feel ashamed of their experience. These audiences may enjoy psychological thrillers, but feel unrepresented in the existing pool of sympathetically complex characters and characters failed by society.

We believe that Baby Fever will be an important contribution to our media climate because of the fact that women, and especially women of colour, don’t have much opportunity to see their angers and frustrations represented in a likeable way. When it is represented, there is rarely the sympathetic lens afforded to morally gray characters of the male gender.
